Winter is Coming!
This past week was the week of the Chesapeake Chapter. We had three events in a single week, which must be a record! Sunday started with TopGolf in Gaithersburg, MD with the Washington Metropolitan Area (WMA) Chapter where all had a great time to socialize and show our ball-striking skills. Our chapter meeting on Wednesday had Mr. Sandy Friedenthal discussing SysML 2.0 which set a record on the number registered for the event as well as in attendance. We ended on Saturday with a tutorial by Mr. Howard Lykins discussing the “Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM) and the Systems Modeling Language (SysML)” which was held live at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) as well as hosting online participants.
Each of these events are significant as they represented a different part of the chapter with different interests, both social, professional, and academic. We are fortunate that our chapter is in an area with such diverse venues to host these events.
The chapter looks forward to finishing 2022 strong, we have one more monthly lecture held at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in a hybrid setting. Next year (assuming all goes well health wise in the world), we will look to slowly return to dinners and live socializing prior to the monthly lecture, in a hybrid fashion. We’ve gained some international friends who regularly attend our meetings in the last few years, and would like to continue the connection. We’ll also look to diversify our venues for the chapter meetings.
As mentioned in last week’s chapter meeting, we are extending our academic scholarship competition to November 11, please see the following for additional information: ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS webpage.
There is still time to submit papers, panels, and tutorials for the INCOSE International Symposium, held at the Honolulu Convention Center in Hawaii in July: https://www.incose.org/symp2023/call-for-submissions. Deadline is mid-December for submissions.
Finally, set your calendars for our annual Winter Gala, held again at the Engineers Club at the Garrett/Jacobs Mansion in Baltimore, MD on December 16 from 5:30-9:30pm, please register here! . This event will also be held jointly with the WMA Chapter.
Hope to see you all either in person or virtually!
