We SUPPORT STEM Growth in our Community
On an annual basis members support local middle and high school students science fairs. Chesapeake Chapter has formed a committee to judge science fairs for Anne Arundel County and Baltimore Schools.
The Anne Arundel County Public School Regional Engineering Expo has over 350 student participants. The Baltimore Science Fair is a competition of the winners from schools in Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Harford and Howard Counties and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (including the Ingenuity Project) in Baltimore City. Entrants per high school is fifteen (15) and middle school is six (6), which generally results in over 300 students.
Student projects are evaluated and those with the best representation of STEM ideas with a systems engineering approach are generally ranked highest in the selection process. Monetary awards are presented to students based on the established criteria.
Generally, three students are chosen as a first, second and third place winners and on occasion there may be an honorable mention at the discretion of the judges.
These two Science Fairs are typically held in May and the STEM - Science Fair Committee is always looking for volunteers. So, if you are interested in supporting, please let us know. This is a great way to serve our community and to support our youth.
This February and March, Chesapeake Chapter volunteers again participated as independent sponsor judges at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Science and Engineering Expo. There were five volunteers this year: Clinton Hilliard, Jim Campbell, Jim DeCamp, Josephine Podolsky, and Daniel Yue.
This February and March, Chesapeake Chapter volunteers again participated as independent sponsor judges at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Science and Engineering Expo. The judges reviewed projects from 6th through 12th grade.
Again this year we are offering opportunities to participate with the Chapter in Maryland science fair events this spring. We are looking to put together teams to support review of student engineering projects across MD school districts. All efforts will be attended virtually.
This February and March, Chesapeake Chapter volunteers again participated as independent sponsor judges at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Science and Engineering Expo. Due to the Coronavirus, this year the entire event was conducted virtually. The judges reviewed projects from 6th through 12th grade.
To greatly aid our chapter’s efforts in promoting engineering education for youth, we are seeking interested people to help us partner with the FIRST LEGO League this spring. One of our chapter members is on the Maryland FIRST LEGO League Planning Committee and has asked if INCOSE could field a team of volunteers to help judge their middle-school events. The FIRST LEGO League is a great opportunity to share in experiences and inspire our young folks.
The Chesapeake Chapter volunteers again participated as independent sponsor judges at two of Maryland’s premier youth STEM events: The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Lego League (FLL) State Championships and the Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Science and Engineering Expo Awards.
Mark your Calendars...June 17th - 20th -- And let INCOSE Southern Maryland (SoMD) Chapter know if you want to participate in this year’s Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems - International Student Unmanned Aerial Systems competition. Please contact Cheryl Kinchen, CSEP, by email -- cakinchen@gmail.com -- if you’re interested.
Mark your Calendars...March 7th and March 21st -- And let us know if you want to participate with us at two of Maryland's major youth science fair events this spring. We will be reviewing high school engineering projects from all over the Baltimore area in order to choose those few that are most deserving to be honored by the chapter.
This March, Chesapeake Chapter volunteers again participated as independent sponsor judges at two of Maryland’s premier youth STEM events: The 51st Anne Arundel County Science Expo on March 9th and the 64th Baltimore County Science Fair on March 2nd.
The members of our Chapter should play an active role in various STEM activities throughout our community. Why is this important and what impact will this have on the future of Systems Engineering?
Please consider volunteering for INCOSE-CC’s STEM initiatives.
